Error Making Transition

Offline
#1 nworker
I captured a time sequence of 844 shots using a Canon 5dm3 and Rokinon 14mm 2.8. The exposure was constant throughout the entire sequence, which ran all night.

ISO: 6400
fStop: 2.8
SS: 36 seconds

I shot in raw, copied the files to a hard drive upon my return, started LR Timelapse 3.4 running on Windows 7 64bit Java 1.7.0_67 as you will see in the log file, and initialized the sequence.

I got one error message saying I had used the holy grail method, which I didn't. No worries though.

I used automatic keyframes: two were created.

I added several keyframes at locations where clouds came over and then cleared saving the metadata.

Imported/Added files to LR 5.6, made a few adjustments on the 1 star images: lens correction, crop location, exposure, color temp, color tint, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, clarity, sharpness, sharp edge, N.R luminance, and N.R color.

Saved the metadata, reloaded metadata in LRT, and performed an auto transition.

All along I had been checking the error log. On the last step, there were errors. Here is the log file:

[2014-10-01 15:13:41] DEBUG: Fixing crops
[2014-10-01 15:15:08] INFO: 844 XMP-files successfully saved.

I'm not sure why there was a problem with the crops. They all looked the same and I used synchronization between the 1 star frames.

Any ideas what is going wrong here?

When I re-read the meta data into LR5 all of the changes I made to the exposure, color temp and the like are reset. This shows me LR5 is reading the XMP files.

In going back to LRT, the WB Temp, and WB Tint do not reflect the changes I made in LR5. I'll go back through the process again to see who isn't doing their job.

Thanks,

Hank

The problem appears to be when I reload the meta data.

I readjusted the settings for all of the 1 star images in LR5, saved the metadata, and did a reload. The changed metadata is not showing up in the LRT UI.

For example: i changed the WB Temp to 3600 in LR and after reloading, LRT shows it at the original 5850. The last key frame does show the correct WB temp of 3600.

I don't know if this matters. I installed a custom lens profile for the Rokinon 14mm 2.8. In LR5 it works fine. In the LRT log file, I see the following message showing up, which leads me to believe LRT is not happy with something associated with the lens profile:

[2014-10-01 16:09:39] INFO: Reloading XMP only...
[2014-10-01 16:09:39] DEBUG: Timestamp Data complete!

The errors indicate that there is something wrong with the metadata or some values that LRT does not like.
You can send me a short sequence (5 images including your xmp files) then I will check.

Please try the process again by re initializing and not unsing the lens profile, you can still add that one later in the very last step in Lightroom, before exporting for render and synchronize it.

Just got back from a long weekend up in Death Valley and got a chance to work through your guidance.

I started from scratch and did not apply the lens data until I was ready to render from LR. It looks good so far. LR is a bit odd in that I used CNTL-S to save the metadata to the XML files and no data was written. I then did the metadata save explicitly and all was fine with LRT seeing the changes. The LTR Image properties was a real help to see what was actually in the metadata file.

I'll let you know how the rendering works out.

Cheers,

Hank

Hi Hank,
when loading/saving metadata with ctrl-S when in the develop module, LR will only save the most selected image. That's why I always stress to go to Library (Grid View), select all before loading/saving Metadata.

The rendering worked as expected. Here is the resulting movie:
