LR 4.6 Pro Unstable

Offline
#1 smckenzie75
Hey All,

Just installed LR TL 4.6 Pro on a new iMac with the latest version of OS X. LR Time-lapse is very unstable, often freezes during use and restarts the computer, or it will be processing previews and the DNG converter quits and eventually causes the computer to reboot again.

Getting really annoying as I can't process anything.

Any ideas?

This is a report I've not heard of yet, so it might be something with your configuration, but hard to say.
Have you installed the latest Adobe DNG Converter? http://lrtimelapse.com/install

Yes - latest version of DNG.

This is becoming infuriating as I have a project to deliver by months end. Just tried again on a different clip and LR Time-lapse quit when processing previews. If I try to render tiff's out of LR it quits. I deleted the XMP's and tried again but no difference.

All software is up to date.

So system panics when making previews in LR Time-lapse or export 16 bit tiffs from LR:

LR just froze again exporting a sequence as 4k jpg's.

But this seems to be rather a problem with the Adobe Software on your system then with LRTimelapse.
You say your system freezes when a) Creating Visual Previews: this is the Adobe DNG Converter or b) Exporting from Lightroom - this is Lightroom.
I know that this doesn't help you with your problem, I'm just trying to sort out the reason for what you are experiencing.

Lightroom is know for not being very stable when using the graphics accelleration introduced with LR6/CC. You might try turning this of in Preferences/Performance. In LRTimelapse expert Settings you could lower the number of threads used for visual preview creation, set it to 4 if higher.

It could be your hardware too - maybe a thermal problem or a faulty memory brick. Both - LRTimelapse's Visual Preview creation and Lightroom Export will put it to massive stress. This could reveal problems that are not noticeable otherwise.

Graphics acceleration was turned off, does it with it turned on.

Swapped out various memory, no difference.

System can playback 4k video via Final Cut with plugins with no issues. It also has a AMD Radeon R9 M395X with 4Gb of Ram so system stress isn't an issue here.

Playback will normally not stress the processor that much. But I can only guess - I honestly don't know what's happening there. I quite sure it's not a LRTimelapse issue because LRTimelapse runs in a virtual java environment. If it crashes due to a programming bug, it will crash inside the virtual machine and generate an error log. The computer keeps running.
In your case the whole process or computer seems to freeze, this is a strong indicator that something else is wrong.
