I've tried on both the latest stable release of LRT6 and the most recent beta. I've tried different cores settings. I've tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling. I've really tried everything I could, but I'm still getting LRT crashing.

I've narrowed it down to consistently crashing when I press Auto Transition. When I press Auto Transition, the program goes to remove the visual previews first, and it removes about 50 frames and then the LRT program crashes and produces the 'rainbow beach ball of death', but the Visual Previews continue to be rendered in the background (I can see them in the Dock). I have let the visual previews finish rendering, but LRT still says frozen. When I force quit LRT, then I get an error message that I forced Java to quit, I am unable to reload LRT, and I have to restart the computer in order to get the program working again. Since the program is freezing, I am unable to retrieve the log.

I am on a M1 Macbook Air with latest OS updated. I am running the recommended 8 cores and 8 cores in the LRT settings. I have tried various settings to see if I could get it to work, but I reliably get the freezing after Auto Transition and clearing of old Visual Previews.

I have given LRT, Adobe DNG Converter, and LRClassic all Full Disk Access from the OS.

The issue usually does not happen the first time that I do Auto Transition. It's usually the second time I do Auto Transition in a given session. I'm completely stumped. Can you please help?

With the M*-Macs the default number of parallel processes is too high in some cases, especially with weaker hardware like the Air. I will change this in on the next updates.
Obviously, your computer overloads with the number of parallel processes that LRTimelapse spawns. Please try setting those to 4 in the Settings / Expert settings. Then restart and try again.

I changed the cores back down to 4 on both settings in expert settings. It seems to be working better and more reliable, but it did crash a couple of times in the same manner. It's probably not possible because of the way you programmed it, but I wonder if the clearing of the visual previews process could finish before the visual previews start to regenerate. It seems the two processes are conflicting. What's weird about this is that when LRT is frozen, it continues to write the files by Adobe DNG Converter.

It shouldn't be a problem, that the VP are being rebuild while the older VP are still being discarded. This works for thousands of other users and I have no other reports about this happening. I, myself, work on a Macbook Pro M1 Max with 10 parallel processes and have no similar issues. Could you please send me the LRTimelapse.log from Documents/LRTimelapse after you experience this?

I hope I'm posting this log correctly.... LRT crashed tonight the same as before. I immediately copied the log file, as the program was frozen (but it was still running Adobe DNG Converter).

Thank you, but there is no errors at all in the log. Usually if something is wrong, the Adobe DNG Converters should time out after a certain time and then there should be error entries in the log, but in your case there is nothing.

One more thing to try:
- Launch LRTimelapse
- Hit CMD-Shift-E
- The configuration file will open.
- Before editing that, close LRTimelapse (!)
- In the text file with the configuration that opens, find the line:

- Change the 8 to 4 (don't remove the comma at the end)

Save the config and launch LRTimelapse.
Now load your folder again and just turn on visual previews. Then wait if they compete for the sequence. The time out for a DNG Converter instance will be 1 minute. If they don't complete the bar below the preview will turn red, if they complete it will turn green. In any case, wait and then send me the log once again.

If 4 also doesn't help, please use the same procedure to set that setting for 1 to test if there is something blocking with the ExifTool multithreading.

When I pressed CMD-Shift-E, I got an error "Failed to open, edit or print /Users/bfortin/Library/Application Support/LRTimelapse/LRTimelapse.config. Error code: -10814". Regardless, I went to Finder and opened up that config file and edited the Exiftool cores to 4, like you said. I restarted LRT and opened my project folder photo set. I am sending you the log:

Quick report... I have tested it with the Exiftool cores changed to 4 and everything seems to be working perfectly again. After I tested 4 cores on everything, I even bumped the Visual Previews cores and the internal export cores back up to 8 and everything seems to be working perfectly and even better than before! I'll continue to test, but it really does feel like changing the Exiftool cores to 4 solved the issue. Thank you so much for your great service. I love LRT!
