OT: How do you get full frame of wildlife

I watched Gunther’s African Skies 2 video.

There are several points in the video such as the “prarie dogs” (i.e., 15 seconds) where the animal takes up the full frame. I have shot my share of wildlife using a 400mm lens on Canon 5D MIII and have never been able to get a full frame image of the animal before they run off. This is especially true of birds.

Gunther or anyone else, did you shoot with the 300mm lens? How close were you? How did you get so close to the animals. The fox at 1:15 seconds is another example. The moment wildlife sees me they are gone.

Hi Rich,
when you shoot in Africa, you shoot from inside the car. Animals will not perceive you as human, as long as you stay in the car and dont stick your head or arms out.
I did most of the tele shooting with the awesome Nikkor 300 f/2.8, that got me really close. Additionally the crop sensor of the D7100 is really really good for this kind of stuff, it gets you even closer.

Try to camouflage yourself when shooting wildlife - car, tent, etc...
