Do you have to use Raw + Jpg when shooting auto holy grail in qDslrDashboard

I guess what I am trying to ask is. Does qDslrDashboard read the jpg to determine when to change the expose in auto?

Yes, that's the reason. You can throw away the JPGs when importing, the LRTimelapse importer has an option for that.
