Night driving through Tasmania, Australia - nathankaso - 2014-07-28

Earlier this year I went to Tasmania with my director mate Timothy Melville to shoot some time-lapse for Australian automotive brand Holden. They gave us a couple of cars and let us loose into the wilderness. Armed with a trunk full of pelican cases we spent seven nights shooting from dusk until dawn, capturing stars, cars, mountains and lakes. We averaged just four hours of sleep a day and captured nearly 20,000 images.

Equipment:
Canon 5D Mark III
Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART, Canon 17-40mm f/4L, 24-105mm f/4L
Dynamic Perception Stage One 6' motorised slider
Emotimo TB3 Black motion control head
Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS lights
Manfrotto heavy-duty suction mounts

Software:
Adobe Lightroom 5, After Effects, Photoshop and Premiere Pro CC
LRTimelapse
Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve

Sweet video. The car lights in the beginning looked as if they were real time while the clouds were timelapse. Is that the case?

We shot the cars driving past as time-lapse but with a much faster shutter speed (4 seconds) with the car travelling at only 10km/h, then did 30 second exposures to capture the stars and blended the two sequences in After Effects.

Very good work! I like how you tied in the vehicle shots with long exposures of the night skies. Looking forward to the next one!
