DNG is much slower to load than RW2 - joesh - 2015-02-17

Hi Folks
I'm pretty new to LRT and have just switched from RW2 files to DNG files by having LR convert them. Half-way through the conversion I fired up LRT and loaded the sequence. It absolutely CRAWLS while loading the DNGs and then speeds up by at least 4x when it hits the remaining RW2s. What's the scoop? Bug, limitation, etc?

Thanks!

I assume that you already had loaded the RAW sequence once in LRT and thus the previews for the RAW files had already been generated. When converting to DNG LRTimelapse sees the DNGs as new files without preview and still has to generate the previews for those files.
Otherwise the DNG workflow in LRT is as fast as a RAW workflow. Lightroom however will take more time to write metadata, since it insists to write the XMP data right inside the DNG files and not as sidecars.

I'd loaded the sequence into LRT more than once so I'm pretty sure any previews were already generated. I'll play with this to try and make a small repeatable test case.
