I installed the evaluation version of LRtimelapse but now Lightroom no longer starts (it gives me a DLL error on startup). Uninstalling the program didn't help. What could I try to manually remove components and see if they cause Lightroom to misfire? Thanks!

LRTimelapse does not change anything on the Lightroom installation and I never got a similar report. The only thing LRTimelapse adds, is a user plugin and some templates, but they don't interfere with the Lightroom installation.
I'm quite sure that there must be something else going wrong with the Lightroom on your system.
As a solution try uninstalling Lightroom completely, it might be good to have all old settings removed too.

After removing everything try reinstalling.
Then reinstalling LRTimelapse too.
