I've read about needing a dng converter to work with lrt, not sure if this applies to me?

I shoot on a Panasonic gh4 and just use raw, I have not used a dng converter at all and am quite confused about this.

The DNG converter will be used internally by LRTimelapse only, of course not to convert your RAW files, if you don't want to.
