Super Moon Lunar Eclipse

The super blood moon eclipse on the 28th September was something I'd been looking forward to, checking the weather forecasts all the time, checking out locations, angles of the moon, timing and the list goes on. In the end I settled for a favourite place on the Isle of Anglesey in the UK called Cwyfan.

I planned on using two static Canon cameras shooting with wideangle lenses and a third camera shooting at 400mm on a iOptron Skytracker mount to give me close ups of just the moon. I shot at 33 second intervals on all the cameras knowing that a maximum exposure of 30 seconds was as long as I wanted to use. A Canon 5D3 was controlled using a laptop running GBTimelapse software, the 2nd static camera was manually adjusted and the third tracking camera was left in AV mode spot metered with manual adjustments of the EV compensation as the eclipse progressed. All of the cameras were fitted with dew heater straps and they worked perfectly allowing me to shoot for 6 hours without any moisture problems.

As the sunrise came up I was left with about 2000 images to play with.

LRTimelapse4 was used to smooth out all the images and exported as 16-bit tff files so I could then use Photoshop to manually place the correctly exposed shots of the moon back into the wide field timelapse.

The end result is this
