Error creating Visual Previews

Offline
#1 mcoda92
I am running into an error when creating visual previews. My computer has been on Catalina for some time and working smoothly. I used LRT for the first time in a week or so today and encountered the error. I've restarted the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled both LRT5 and DNG Converter. I've also tried installing previous versions of the DNG converter, and have given both programs full disk access in the security settings.
I did do a software update to my mac since last usage. I am currently running Catalina version 10.15.2 . Logfile copied below. The DNG previews continually fail to generate and thus stack up unlimitedly on the desktop. I have to quit LRT to make them go away, and some I have to force quit.

Update. DNG converter is working for sequences stored on my computer. But it is not working for sequences stored on my Raid. I'm thinking it's a Catalina security thing. But I've given LRT5 and DNG Converter full disk access, so I'm not sure what else to try...

Yes, I also think, your OS is blocking access. Please upgrade to the latest Adobe DNG Converter. Normally you should get a query when LRT first try to create a VP then, but if not please double check the security settings and that the DNG Converter and LRT have full Disk Access. there might be a separate right for Network access, not sure if it's included in "Full Disk", please try.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't found the solution yet. Other external volumes are working, but still not this one RAID. I'm going to transfer the project onto a different drive, which will allow me to work on them. But no idea what the problem is with this one drive.

It could also be a permissions problem on that drive. The "Fix Permissions" tool in MacOS might help.

I appreciate your help. I've tried files on a different RAID and this one is not working either. What is odd is that it works intermittently....I've actually gotten LRT5 to create visual previews for a short sequence, but it took much longer than normal and numerous photos failed to generate a preview due to the timeout. Then LRT came back and tried them for a second time and it worked. Then I go to try a different sequence and that one fails on every single visual preview. Resulting in the same errors from the logfile I copied before.

I've tried different cables. Configuring the drive to both Raid1 and Raid 0. The drive is a G-tech 16TB Raid with Thunderbolt 2.

Uninstalling and reinstalling both LRT5 and DNG converter. Both programs have full disk access. Other programs are working fine with reading/writing to the drives (for example I've rendered out timelapses in Prores4444 onto the raid). I've tried the fix permissions tool, which appears to not be an issue.

I've tried using the DNG converter outside of LRT on files from the drive and it converts them to .dng files successfully.

But everything does work just fine if I am working a sequence that is located on my desktop or a 2TB SSD that I've tried. It seems to be only these G-tech raids that are the issue. Two of them now are doing the same thing with making the DNG Converter timeout.

I am at a loss for what else to try. I can edit sequences on the SSDs, but it isn't an ideal workflow.

I'm sorry, but currently I also have no idea what's happening there. Sure - LRTimelapse puts way more stress on the drive, then most of the other Apps, because it spawns multiple instances that will write and read simultaneously to increase speed. But normally, the drive controller should be able to handle those parallel queries fine.

I've lowered the JPEG quality to 85% and that helped. I managed to fully process a sequence with 135 photos.
Then trying a larger sequence it worked for the first ~160 photos before starting to timeout. Subsequently I lowered it to 50% an tried a large sequence and it worked for a bit before begninning to timeout continually. Maybe it is the drive controller, but these are pretty fast drives so I am surprised it's an issue.

You could try to reduce the number of threads in the LRTimelapse settings (expert settings) to see if that helps.
