Exif Timestamp Option

This only happens, if your sequence doesn't have exif timestamps, which is not normal. In that case LRTimelapse offers to use file dates as timestamps. Since the file dates are often not meaningful, you need to decide manually which makes sense to use.

CR2 images should always have timestamps embedded. Normally there is no need to do such a tagging, maybe one or more of those Images were corrupt. Maybe also you didn't wait until LRTimelapse had loaded all exif data. Or maybe you are running out of memory. Officially sequences up to 10000 images are supported, see
https://lrtimelapse.com/eula
If you work with larger sequences, you need a lot of ram - on mac you need to increase the memory provided to LRTimelapse: http://forum.lrtimelapse.com/Thread-mac-...rtimelapse
And yes, if you use the special "Copy File-Dates to Exif-Dates" feature, it will copy the file dates to the exif dates. :-)
