External Power for Nikons

Offline

Hi,
I just bought a secondhand Nikon D5100 for timelapse and im trying to figure out the best way to power it with DSLRDashboard and my dynamicperception rig. I really want to run everything off 12v external batteries so i can have it running for 8-10hrs and not have to change batteries.

Anyway the question is;
The D5100 looks to be able to take a battery coulper (dummy batterys with a cable to external source) is anyone doing this with a D5100?
If so what solutions did you use.
I have seen heaps of adapters etc for Canon and only wall adapters for Nikon, so not sure if there is a dedicated solution out there I am yet to find or if i need to buy the canon 12v DC converter and a Nikon DC coulper/wall charger and splice them together.
These are what im talking about splicing together.

I wrote an article in German about how I power my cameras - would work likewise für the D5100 with a EN-EL14 dummy.
This is translated via google translate - maybe it helps a bit.

I have one of THESE. It came from China so it took a while to get it; but when it did, it worked really well, I ordered cables for my other camera bodies.

I use a portable 12v SLA battery with an inverter. (The original Paul C. Buff Vagabond Battery - heavier than a sack of potatoes!) I use AC so I can power the camera, slider and emotimo tb3 black and charge TP-Link 3040 V2 and Samsung GalaxyTab3 from one power source: longest shoot I made so far was 18+ hours straight with no hiccup.

Hope this helps.
