Focus bracketing

To answer some of the questions regarding focus bracketing and 'camera/host mode'.

Nikon cameras can operate in 2 modes:
camera mode: by default, in this mode you can operate some of the controls on the camera (shutter release, capture mode, focus mode, etc) but the DslrDashboard can't change the properties that have dedicated buttons/controls on camera (capture mode, focus mode, etc)
host mode: in host mode DslrDashboard has full control over camera and you can't operate the camera with the buttons/controls on it

Now regarding focus bracketing:
The lens focus can be only moved while the camera is in live view and while the focus mode is set to AF-S or AF-C. In MF mode will not work.

So when you start the focus bracketing DslrDashboard does the following:
1. Capture the image
2. Enter live view
3. Move the focus by the defined focus bracketing step and direction
4. Leave live view
5. Go to step 1 until the defined focus bracketing image count is reached

As the Nikon cameras tend to always execute AF before capture (while connected with USB) DslrDashboard solves this with setting the focus mode to MF before capture. On cameras that have a dedicated focus mode button (like the D7100) this can be done only while the camera is in 'host mode'.

So to be able to execute a focus bracketing on Nikon D7100 you must first put the camera into 'host mode'.
