Nikon's new D7100 1.3x (18x12) crop factor....??

At first it seems a little odd that Nikon in their wisdom have offered the 1.3x (18x12) crop factor with the new D7100 (which I am sure Gunther pre-ordered) but the more I think about it, the more use I feel it could be for saving space and also for use in video editing programs.

How will it affect us delightfully dedicated LRTimelapse users?

What benefits can or will we get from using the new crop factor?

I have the D7100 here. The additional crop of 1.3x is really only a crop - no magic. For TL if you want to go wide on DX for example with the 10-24 you will end up with 13mm on the low end, the question is if this is desirable.
I for myself don't see a big benefit, if 24MP is too high for timelapse, a D7000 will do as well.

You might want to check my D7100 review (German with Google Translator to English - horryble translation but however...:-))
