has anyone found a faster way for LR to export back into LRT for the final render? 800 + shots takes hours and my Mac is up to the task.

This is a Lightroom problem: it uses only 1 processor when exporting. You can start more then one export task (different sequences) in parallel to increase the performance. Check your processor usage graph!
Unfortunately there is not much I can do to speed Lightroom up...
