Lightroom 6 is not far off. If I buy LRTimelapse now, what happens when LR6 is released. Will I have to upgrade LRTimelapse? (or more importantly, will I need to pay extra for any upgrades?)

If you buy now, you won't have to pay for the upgrade.

Just install the LRT4 version, if you bought LRT3 on or after March, 1st 2015, your LRT3 license will work with LRT4.
The EBook will be updated too, but I need some time for this.
