luminance curve explain

Offline
#1 bethpapa
hi
can someone explain to me the luminance curve in the holy grail where we need to rotate/stretch before we drag the icon into LR?
my practice has always been to rotate/stretch to be as close to the middle as possible but I do not understand why I have to do that.
Many thanks in advance.

Yes, that's correct. You do that to keep the changes in brightness minimal, that the hg wizard introduces. Middle line is no brightness compensation. Everything above increases the brightness, everything below decreases it.
If you let the correction curve deviate too much, you'd need to counter adjust more via exposure later when editing the keyframes.

Btw: such backgrounds are explained in my new ebook, link in footer.
