I am using LR PRoTimer 2.5 and since a while the battery drains fast. Once powering up a message appears - RTC not running. I need to set the date every time I power up. Does this mean the small battery is empty?

Is there a quick description on how to replace the small battery if this is the case?

Yes, that's the button cell that needs to be replaced which powers the real time clock (Rtc). There are instructions on how to do this in the PRO Timer's manual:
