I have read both your e-book and the tutorials but remain unclear about the deflickering, particularly when creating a rectangle or square selection of part of the scene for reference baseline. Where should I create the selection in the scene? Should I create it where the flickering is minimal in the scene or should I create it where the flickering is strongest?

Hi Carl
you should set it where you have mostly only real "flicker" that you want to remove and not any other changes. So mostly a place in the sky would be fine or on a wall where no one passes in front.
