Using an egg timer: Which shooting mode?

Hi!
I would like to try the trick of rotating the camera by simply fixing it on an egg timer. Im am going to use my compact camera which should work with it. But now I am wondering which shooting mode I should use. Usually I just use manual mode. However, when rotating the camera you would have different light conditions and I think I am not able to adjust the settings (holy grail technique) when the small camera is on that egg timer. What would you suggest? Using manual mode nevertheless or would aperture priority work better in this case?
I would be glad to get any hints.

I'd suggesting using the M mode anyway. Just expose to the brightest area, then light up the shadows later on the keyframes when editing in LR/LRT.

Thank you very much.
Using the brightest area as a reference is a good idea, I'll try this. :-)
