Visual deflicker messed up

Offline
#1 magges
Hi Gunther,

I am running LRT 5.6 beta 2 on MacOS 11.3 and editing a DNG sequence from an DJI Mavic Air2s. Everything was fine until I did the two pass visual deflicker. It looks like the calculation of the correction value was done correctly, but the rendering of the changed frames look as if these are the images without edits.
After "visual previews", all frames were rendered with previews. After the visual previews were rendered, I changed the region for the visual luminance. And then the deflicker was started.
When playing back the preview after deflicker, it flickers heavily due to the mix of edited and unedited frames.
After reseting the deflicker the preview shows the initial sequence of edited frames without deflickering, but the luminance chart is still jumping.
When I press deflicker now, it tries to smooth the jumping luminance curve which does not reflect the actual luminance of the frames.

Is it possible to reset the luminance values for calculating them again? It does not help to change the region for the luminance calculation.

I changed the folder and then came back to the sequence in LRT and this fixed the calculation of the luminance curve/values. Then I did again the two pass deflicker and it worked fine.

I worked on another new sequence captured with the same device. Again, everything worked until I came to deflicker:
1. create keyframes -> OK
2. holy grail wizard (there are some ISO changes) -> OK
3. save metadata -> OK
4. import to Lightroom -> OK (keyframes marked with stars etc.)
5. Edit in Lightroom
6. Reload -> OK
7. Autotransitions -> OK
8. visual previews -> OK
7. start two pass deflicker -> looks to be ok, LRT shows values in the deflicker column and also curve is updated
8. reload metadata in Lightroom -> NOK
- edits of all frames are gone
- first keyframe marker is gone
- other keyframes markers are still there (holy grail keyframes and very last keyframe)

I checked an XMP file and none of the edits is there. Everything is reset to default. Strange is the fact, that the keyframe markers are there for some files but the edits are gone. As the visual previews were ok, they must have been there.
I am not sure if this issue is related to the beta or maybe to something with the metadata in the DNG files of the DJI Air 2S.

I don't think this is related to the beta, but you can always uninstall it and install the latest official version, if you want.
Anyway: could you check if the Date of the images is correct (means in the past)?
With DNG files, Lightroom writes the XMP Data into the files itself, LRTimelapse writes Sidecar files. Both programs read whatever is newer.
If it's not a date problem, it might be related to those special DNG files.
If you can't get it going, would you please send me a sequence of 100 of those images in a zip archive to support(at)lrtimelapse.com - use wetransfer or https://fromsmash.com/ to send please.

I checked the dates of the files and found this:
- file creation, modification and EXIF dates are in the past for all DNG files except
- except: first DNG file of the sequence has as modification date the timestamp when I edited the sequence
I will send you the link to the files.

I've edited your sequence a couple of times from scratch (started fresh with "Metadata / Initialize" and could not reproduce any issues. It just does what it should.
One note: that is not a "Holy Grail" sequence, since the camera is seamlessly changing the shooting parameters, you can see that the blue curve is quite smooth without the typical "Holy Grail Jumps". In such cases, just skip the HG Wizard.

Please retry from scratch also (Metadata initialize / Remove sequence from Lightroom). Then try to find a concise way to reproduce your issues and let me know. I'll keep your sequence for now.

Important: double check that in Lightroom you don't have activated "Automatically save Changes to Metadata" as explained on https://lrtimelapse.com/install/
