XMP change on original JPG files

Is it possible to save the XMPs of sequence photos as another file or catalog/project?
I would like to test different adjustments for one set of photos, but couldn't go back to the old setting once I save new XMP (keyframe or color) setting into JPG.

Another similar thing is, we know that LR doesn't change anything to the original files, but LRT does. It would be better that LRT doesn't change the original JPG files.

There is the snapshot feature in LRTimelapse that allows you to save different snapshots of XMP settings for the whole sequence. You can always revert to a snapshot. The Create/Load Snapshots buttons are above the table on the right side.

Both LR and LRT write XMP data into the JPGs, this is by Adobes design. If you "Save Metadata to files" on JPGs in Lightroom, it will write the XMP data right into the JPGs as well, like LRT does. This will not modify an image information, only the metadata. So don't worry, it's like Adobe intended it to be.
