Zoom makes movie jitter?

Offline

I have been working with the cropfunction to make a zoom. Since the function is there, you better use it, right Smile

Problem is, its getting real shaky when zooming, whilst my original footage is steady.
I tried auto transition, and ease transition.
Is this do to a mistake I make, or is this more of a problem that the four sides of the crop do not constantly 'move' at the same rate? (where as a video-editor probably takes that into account?)

Below the examples.

Regards,

Bas

Hey Bas, I observed that in some cases as well. It is caused by the way Lightroom rounds the crop parameters.
I already tried some approaches to minimize it and LRTimelapse calculates with 64bit precision, but that doesn't help because Lightroom rounds the float values before applying the crop.
If you experience such problems please export in a higher resolution, for example with the 1620p template and make the Ken Burns effect in your movie editing program, that will be smoother.

I finally found the cause for the jitter. In my opinion it has to do with changing aspect ratios, in some cases caused by rotations in other cases due to usage errors.

Anyway, I implemented a completely new algorithm for the animation of the crop. Now you should be able to make smooth zooms, rotations and pans à la Ken Burns.

Stay tuned for version 1.4 - I'm going to release it in the next days.

That is quite an achievement and a big step for your softwarepack! I am very curious!

Hi Gwegner,

I tested it on the same movie above, and the problem is not completely solved. It still makes the movie jutter.

If I look at the crop data i can see why, but i dont know if you can do anything about it.

If you look closely the transition of the crop left-right and crop top bottom, doesnt not always hold the aspect ratio correct. Sometimes it makes the picture 1 pixel bigger or smaller. It has probably something to do with round down of the three digit number.

Maybe you can make up some kind of code to always hold the aspect ratio and force it to keep it 16:9?

I include the image to make it easier to understand my mumbling Smile

Bas, thank you for sharing your thoughts.
In fact the numbers in the table are only rounded for display. Are you really sure that the aspect ratio changes? If you look into the XMP files and search for "crop" you will find the real numbers (much longer).
Please have a look and tell me if you really get changing aspect ratios...

Sorry, I just was a little bit quick... You probably wont be able to figure out the aspect ratio on your own, because of the way it is stored. Give me some time, I will check that for you or add a possibility to display it to the software.

Hi,

If the numbers are only rounded for display my guess about aspect ratio is not supported anymore. Still, i have a feeling the problem lies around there somewhere. But I am not a programmer. It might as wel be a problem of the movie converter and a program like premiere makes a totally different calculation with a sort of linear movement in stead of making each frame a different size
