Hi folks, I'm new here and new in photography. What made me enter on the photo world was, mostly, timelapses.

For some reasons I was convinced to order a Nikon D5200 that will be arriving in two weeks.

The thing is I have started to research on timelapse gear a little late and discovered that Canon cameras are more versatile to timelapse because of the most free bulb mode.

So what you guys think as my best option for shooting Holy Grail Timelapses?

1. Use a external common intervalometer and change the exposure manualy?
2. Use some device like Promote Control, Timelapseplus or Triggertrap (I dont know if this devices can do good jobs on the Nikon limited bulb mode).
3. Sell the Nikon that is still on its way, loose money and buy a cannon? (thats kinda sad).
4. Any other solution?

Sorry for my poor english and thanks in advance!
Ricardo,

a camera (as well as a computer) is a tool. An extension of your mind. It does not matter what you use. It matters what you achieve.

You should use the tool you feel most comfortable with. To be able to judge, you have to try.

As far as results are concerned, looking at Gunthers timelapses I don't think an argument can be made that Nikon is not a good choice for timelapse photography.

Cheers
Marcus
Ok, now I see that gunther has done that amazing video in Africa with nikons D7000 and D5100... and wow thats is just ridiculous amazing! I'll search in the forum if he has explained the techniches utilized in these timelapse videos, if he used only intervalometers, or bulb ramping external devices, etc.
I use external intervallometers, with the D5100/D5200 you shouldn't use the internal timer because it doesn't let you change parameters while shooting. For Day to Night sequences I use the holy grail method expained in my tutorial: http://lrtimelapse.com/tutorial
I wrote an article about bulp ramping as well and why I dont use it: http://forum.lrtimelapse.com/Thread-is-a...ime-lapses

Thanks Gunther, I'm a huge fan of your work! I'm going to see your tutorials and get your e-book to learn some of your tricks!
Just getting back here to post my first holy grail video using Gunthers Method and LRTimelapse... There is some shake because I have done it without a tripod.

Thanks Gunter, your software is incredible as well as your method!

Very nice for a first effort! What was the total time of the sequence and what interval (seconds between shots) did you use?
I'm about to do some Pre Dawn to sunrise shots & am trying to determine the best interval without shooting 1,000 frames. D800 files take up a lot of storage.....

I used 5 sec intervals, my D5200 RAWS use something like 30/35mb one shot, so in a 32gb card i can take something like 800 photos.
