Hi all,

I'm new here because of a problem I got when using lrtimelaps...

It's about that problem that seems to occur within certain platforms ( not really defined ) when using :
" On some systems LRTimelapse is not able to generate the (normally hidden) Folder ".LRTimelapse" inside your user directory.

and using your solution :

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

and :

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

Now doing all this, I did see the hidden folders, and tried to run lrtimelaps and save all the changes made...but...

it didn't work on my Macbook pro 10.8.6

Worse, I got an error mssg saying something was wrong with Library, but don't recall exactly the mssg. I could'nt get rid of the mssg, so I desided to restart.

Till now my mac doesn't anymore... just the apple logo and the little wheel keeps
turning, but it don't booth.

I ran the original set up cd with utiilites ran over the HD but no cure either.

What can you provide as a solution ?

Hope you have one...Undecided

Thanks.

caplight

Sorry, but I never heard of a problem like that and I can certainly say that LRTimelapse is not the reason for that. LRTimelapse is only an application that runs inside a java virtual machine and does no harm to your operating system whatsover.
Besides this I'm no mac expert so unfortunately I can't help you, sorry.
I wish you success recovering your system!
Hi Gunther,

thanks for yr answer.
What can I say ? I'm certainly not an expert in software development and don't even understand what you are saying. So, you can blow me of my socks easily with techy stuff.
I work for many years as a pro photographer with lots of software programs but never ever encountered such a profound crash using just one software that was running at that time.
Don't mind my saying, but stating that you have never heard of a problem like that doesn't mean it could rise out of the blue whatever the reason is...
I only posted it to find a cause, a solution for the future and if I can prevent one person from going through the same burdon...
So it seems that all is fine with lrt, and everything is wrong with my mac. Undecided

I'm not so happy...

thanks anyway.

Hi Gunther,

Ok I succeeded in getting my macbook Pro 10.6.8 back in perfect condition. It was pushing the borders of my knowledge but with a little help from a good friend we got it back in good shape.

Although I was pissed about what happened, I'm not a fast quitter, so I would like you to help me out with this problem ( if I understand it right it is already explained but want to be absolutely sure, that what you stated 'that LRTimelapse is not the reason for that', is indeed the case ).

First I 'll give you what I use for image :
Smallest raw setting ( 11mb in Canon 5D Mark II) )

As explained in this video (http://vimeo.com/channels/filmschool/page:11 top vimeo ) I first use Bridge to work on the first RAW image.
Then import the images into LRT and follow the workflow as explained till I come to save all the changes.
It's here I encounter the mentioned problem in my 1st mssg.

I get the following error mssg as from the first line till the last.
Could not write stub for IMG_0231.xmp. Is /Users/Home/.lrtimelapse/stubs/-592066720/.IMG_0231.jpg writable?

In the end I get the following mssg :

399 files sucessfully saved.
399 stubs could not be saved.

To be able to save the stubs for quicker access LRTimelapse must be able to write to the folder
/Users/Home/.lrtimelapse
Please set the appropriate read/write permissions for the folder and all subfolders and files.

That last sentence has been taken care of, but made no difference.

I checked with my friend whose more knowledgable then me, and told me that working in ' terminal ' is messing in the core of the system, so you really have to know what your doing. Hearing this from him makes me wonder if it really can be the case to go for a solution lake that. Afterall, I consider myself an artist and not a software specialist.
When you switch your light button in your living room, you don't need to know how electricity works....

It might also be a good consideration to make a little simple how to video to make it more understandable for people who are not hard core software users.

I really hope to get to a solution, and be able to use this afterall favorable piece of software to get the best results.

Thanks in advance,
caplight.

I'm glad you could sort that out!

You are certainly sure. I'm not happy with that, you can believe me. However this issue only appear on very few systems - on 99% of the system running on mac this problem is not there so I tried to find a workaround for those few systems where it doesn't work.

The background is: applications normally are not allowed to write into the application folder itself - thats on Windows and on Mac. But they are allowed to use the user-folder to store some files. In the case of LRT it's the perviews (stubs) and the configuration (user.props). On you system LRT however is not able to store files in ~userdir/.lrtimelapse.
Now because of the .lrtimelapse folder being hidden (folder beginning with "." are hidden) you can't access it to repair anything. Thus the hack via the terminal.

But all this won't help you so I spent the last night thinking about another solution. I'm going to send you a new version via EMail. Please try it out and tell me if it works. If not please send me the log-file or output in the mac-console (start the console, type lrtimelapse in the filter-box, launch lrtimelapse and copy the result after the processing into an email.)

I'm sure we are going to sort that out.
Thank you for your patience and best regards
Gunther
