What's you average interval now? Do you try to hold to the 180 rule?
The last time I tried doing a hyper lapse I found that I could move the camera and tripod in 10 seconds.

I have seen people doing just hand held which would give you a little more flexibility but I prefer to try and get things as level as possible.
I have been trying to shoot some hyperlapses as well lately, it would be impossible without the help of after effects as you well know.

I have trying with a tripod and also handheld, the tests I did worked out really well.

The link below shows a hand held hyperlapse at a square behind Royal Albert Hall. I shot by looking through the view finder, all manually, small steps and an approx interval of 4 seconds. I wanted to test a hand held hyperlapse, it worked great.

I applied warp stabiliser once, then I added some control points for manual stabilisation, then warp again. The result looks great, at least to me Wink
