Gunther has written about frame rates, smoothness etc.....and I have a question regarding rotation panning speed.

I now have a *new* Mandarin Astro and have been doing some experiments - but I find the results jerky, 'juddery' (sic) - and am wondering if there is a good rule of thumb for how many degrees you might rotate, for a given interval, for an overall duration.

For example, I have been doing a 30 min TL, with a 5 sec interval, spanning 90 degrees (that is 45D on either side of centre) ... results in 360 frames; playback at 30fps - for 12 seconds

I am going to do some more experimentation this weekend - and see if I narrow it to 45 (22.5 on either side) would be better - but am looking for a guideline.

In looking at some finished, polished projects - I am thinking that 45D/45D is way to wide, anyway, and maybe more subtle is better.

Simple rule: as long as it plays "jerky", you are rotating too fast :-)
