Black Forest bundle vs others.... - Jarops - 2019-07-16

I am in process to buy complete gear. There are so many available manufacturers. According to LRTimelapse forum (THANKS) I came across the Black Forest production.

Some questions:

Pros and Cons of this bundle, Slider + NT Head + Lens Unit + PINE R (4-Axis Bundle), https://blackforestmotion.com/product/slider-nt-head-lens-unit-pine-r-4-axis-bundle/

vs....

Emotimo Spectrum ST 4 Run & Gun bundle, https://emotimo.com/products/emotimo-spectrum-st4-run-gun-bundle?variant=12385316143201

Dynamic Perception Sapphire Pro Ultimate Trekker, https://emotimo.com/products/emotimo-spectrum-st4-run-gun-bundle?variant=12385316143201

I am looking for portable FRIENDLY solution, still travel distance long enough, minimum 60 cm. I am intending to use it also for inclined footage. (this rules out Edelkrone since the compact travel size of longer slider not work in inclined position when motorised). Why

Maybe you could advise and recommend a slider with extendable travel options, and your experience, if any.

Any other suggestion would be highly appreciated.

PS. I tried to order yesterday eMotimo bundle.... both credit cards declined..... I called my bank and all was ok from their side.... seem to be international customer issue in USA..... eMotimo using Sopify purchase provider.

If I had a choice, I'd buy the bundle from BFM.
The advantages are clearly the flexibility and the possibilities the app offers you.
With the e-Motimo you always have the whole device with you, so mostly you also have to take the unnecessary weight with you.
With the BFM, you can only take the axes with you that you really want to use. In most cases, only the slider is used anyway and the pan axis is used to make a counter-motion.

As far as I know, the guys at BFM are also working on extending the slider if necessary.

The DP bundle is similarly flexible. However, there are only 3 axes that you can control with the MNX.

Ralph. Thank You very much for your reply. I do feel that BFM would be the better option of these two.... due to 3 vs 4 axes control.

However... this battle is always win/loose situation. DP Stage one PLUS slider is very attractive! 1. the motor is in the "sled" (cable issue with BFM) 2. The slider rods on DP are from 20" length upwards, very portable in the suitcase or back bag.

The controllability of BFM via app is very versatile......

If I could only get DP stage one PLUS slider.... the rest from BFM, that would be the winner. But, I am afraid that DP slider would not run with BFM motor (fittings).

Any thoughts?

I'm using a DP slider with DP motors and BFM controller with BFM app and a BFM lens motor. Works perfectly, but I only use one axis (two if you count the lens motor).

RE: Black Forest bundle vs others.... - Ralph - 2019-07-17

Hi,
that was my first thought, too. The BFM slider is also super portable. This was also one of the goals in the development of the slider.
As Bobu writes, it is not a problem to combine both systems.
See here: https://blackforestmotion.com/controller/

RE: Black Forest bundle vs others.... - Jarops - 2019-07-18

Thank you guys for the info. Question....or.... comment. If you are using DP slider and "sled" movement as a separate (controlling this with DP App) and BFM controller for 3 other axis... tilt/pan/focus with its own app.... this means that you have to use 2 different Apps for controlling 4 axis in this case. Would that be quite a hassle?

My "dream" would be to have DP slider with motor from BFM installed to this. This would give a total control with one App. I really like the DP slider, motor is installed on the sled, no cable hassle like in the DP case.... so compact and you can have 3 X 20" carbon rods (total of 60" of travel). The best part is that this can be easily packed to any mid size luggage!

Anyone has info: Can DP motor connected to BFM Pine R controller? It the motor is with similar specs..... then the cable Plug to controller is the only issue if different, surely this can be changed.

At the BFM website it says: "Extendable" slider coming soon. I believe this means that the extension rods will be avail for the existing 60cm (23") slider. this extra 3" vs DP is not much, except the travel luggage size makes a difference.

It seems which ever system you choose, there are always pros and cons.... and we, the customers are difficult.

I was also checking DP website. If you wanna purchase complete slider (bundle), 1200+USD, this comes with he controller.... Then you add BFM to this, as I see, the price becomes sky rocketing.... ;0(

RE: Black Forest bundle vs others.... - Jarops - 2019-07-18

Oh... Bobu... I just noticed... you use DP slider with BFM controller... how is the connector from the DP motor to BFM controller? I think you solved my problem. ANY change you could share an image or so? Also what do you use as the power source, and what time of shooting functionality you get? Thanks

Here is my thought for the system I am planning to purchase: (give me a professional thought, please)...
I am more still photographer so far, this Time Laps etc.... new interest.

BFM NT Head+Lens Unit+ PINE R, DP Stage One Plus Carbon Fiber extendable slider. I have Sony A7RIII camera, and many Canon L type Lenses (metabones adapter to Sony camera body)

This is the set I am planning to start this exciting adventure to Time Lapse world.

RE: Black Forest bundle vs others.... - Gunther - 2019-07-18

It's no problem to combine the two systems. Just talk to the bfm team, they'll provide the right adapter.

RE: Black Forest bundle vs others.... - Bobu - 2019-07-18

I use the DP Pro Motors with the Chogori connectors:
https://www.dynamicperception.com/EZ-Swap-Pro-Digital-Stepper-motor-for-sliders-p/dp-step-choice-pro.htm

From BFM you can get motor cables with Chogori connectors on one end and Hirose connectors on the other end:
https://blackforestmotion.com/de/product/motor-kabel/

The BFM app can be configured to work with any of the DP motors.

Currently, I have no time to take any pictures of my setup.

But as Gunther wrote just contact Patrick or Moritz at BMF. They both are very helpful and will answer any further questions.

Boris

Actually, I did contacted BMF, and both guys are so helpful!!! WOW. I have not got any reply from DP yet. I will be in USA next week, so I will give them a phone call.
BMF also advised: I can use BFM provided motor, as long as I get so called Quick Mount adapter for the DP sled..... plug and play after this!!!! What service from BFM, very happy!
