Long duration timelapse set up? - seawildearth - 2016-08-20

Anyone here had experience with something of this nature? Mentally looking to plan a 1yr timelapse to show possible coastal erosion on some small islands in the Pacific as a message to reinforce the threat of rising seas etc. It is a location that would function with a solar powered option so that side of things is covered.

Main concern in how to keep any container covers relatively clean seeing as this will be in an isolated and uninhabited region. Just waiting to hear back from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Tourism of the place to see if they would allow that shot to be set up.

Anyone with long duration shoot set up it would be good to know what kind of intervals work best. I was hoping to get two frames a day in daylight hours away from too early or late in the mornings and afternoons to try and retain a steady light level throughout.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Mark.

Most companies that do long time time lapse professionally shoot many more images (every 5 Minutes or even more) to have enough material to do a proper filtering later. LRTimelapse supports this with the long term workflow.
If you shoot only 2 frames a day, you will most likely get a very flickery result since conditions change so much from morning to afternoon and from one day to the other.

Thanks for the valuable input Gunther, much appreciated. As there's no reason to shoot the night I suppose it would be a matter of simply removing those frames in post?

You should check out TBox Systems Titan 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYsJBkKboIM or Photosentinel http://photosentinel.com/
The Titan2 is more DIY, while Photosentinel offers a complete solution including server etc. Both companies are awesome folks that will help you out.

Hi Mark, that's why LRTimelapse brings the dedicated "Long term filters" - see http://lrtimelapse.com/workflow - "Long Term Workflow" - with those you can filter the images by different criteria (brightness, hue, contrast) to get a resulting set of images that look as similar as possible.
