Storage & workflow with SSD and external HDs - Aidan from Scotland - 2016-11-18 Dear All, Whats the best storage & workflow for working on huge amounts of raw files ? I recently installed a 1 TB SSD on my mac desktop (mid 2010 model) and maxed out the RAM which made it SUPER fast. But pretty soon I have filled the new drive with images. And working on files from external drives seems to get really slow (I can only use USB2 i think). Should I put raw files on the Mac's new SSD then remove them to external drives when I have finished rendering video with LRT? Do I try and instal a thunderbolt to speed up working from external drives (if this is even possible)? Do I buy a new computer? Any tips would be incredibly appreciated. Cheers, Aidan RE: Storage & workflow with SSD and external HDs - Gunther - 2016-11-18 I'd use the fastest drive for while working on the sequences, after you are finished and exported the clips, you can move everything to an external drive that is slower, even a NAS will do. That's at least how I do it. |
