No, not that I'm aware of. What makes you think that it's not writing XMP files? Maybe you are just working on different folders in LRT/LR - sometimes this happens when you incidentally had "Copy" selected in the the import dialog instead of "Add".

I'm having the same problem. I just bought LRT today and installed. I edit keyframes, and hit reload. Keyframes are read fine. But when I hit "auto transition" I get an error window saying "could not write XMP-metadate for..." and it lists all the files. This is happening with Sony ARW files, so I tried re-importing them and converting them to dng. Same problem.
Quick update: I started over from scratch and used the sync script as prescribed rather than copying and pasting adjustments in LR. this seems to have helped.

If the log says they have been saved, you can expect that they did.
If you really want to be sure, check the content of the files with a text editor. Aww this faq for some tips: http://forum.lrtimelapse.com/Thread-keyf...vise-versa
LRTimelapse 5.0.4 is the current version and the only one that I give support for. In all the last updates nothing have changed in metadata saving.
Btw: the progress bar will only be shown, when something changed (red indicators on the very left of the table). You can force save with shift-s, but normally this is never necessary.
