LRT 3 with problems rendering video

Offline
#21 Rui Guerra
Hi Gunther,

I think I've found a clue to the problem.

I've found that in all the sequences that I can't render the video, all the intermediate files have the same with but they have different high. Usually the first one is bigger then the last one (the difference is usually in the range of 10 or 20 px, for a 300 image sequence).

Intrigued by that, because I'm sure that I haven't applied any crop animation, I redone everything from the beginning with one sequence and here is what I found:

LRTL3.1PRO - Initialize metadata>Keyframes wizard (I've just left the first and last keyframes)>Save
So far so good, the crop collums only shows the top and bottom values, all the same.

LR5 - Read Matadata>Filter *>Adjusted Shadows, WB, Clarity, Remove chromatic aberration and Enable lens profile correction in the first>Copy all settings>Paste settings to the last keyframes>Grid view>Save metadata
Until here, everything is ok and with the info shortcut I can see that the image size is exactly the same on both keyframes, without any angle adjusted (value 0,00).

LRTL3.1PRO - Reload
Here I've checked that only the first and last keyframes had different values in the columns of the settings I've changed in LR5, as expected.

LRTL3.1PRO - Auto Transition
And here is where the problem started! The column for crop left, right and crop angle appeared, indicating that there is some changes in them. Crop left and right have the same values throughout all the sequence (which is very strange because in that case they shouldn't have appeared (I have the "Hide unchanged columns" checked). Even more strange is the fact that the Crop Angle column shows a steady increasing value of 0,001 every one or two frames, starting at 0,000 and ending up at 0,192.

Obviously that this will lend to different image sizes in LR5 and to different intermediate sizes when they are exported which will cause the problem when I try to render the video.

Gunther, so there is (I think) two different problems:

1 - The LRTExport plugin inside LR5 sometimes work, but sometimes don't, only exporting the first image or not creating the export folder, as I explained in the last post.

2 - The Auto Transition in the Basic Workflow is not working properly and is introducing an animated crop angle which leads to more problems.

Do you have a solution for this?

Hi Rui, normally those weird crop angles are only introduced if the aspect ratio of the crops is different on different key frames. Please make sure that that little lock in the crop panel is closed.

Please try to synchronize the crop of the first image to all images before starting the rendering in Lightroom. LRTimelapse does not support changing crop aspect ratios, this has always leads to weird behaviour.

Hi Gunther,

If you read again my post, you will see that I done exactly that, so no doubt that prior to living LR5 the crop were exactly the same in both keyframes, just a 16:9 in the middle as created by the initialization of metadata made by LRT3.1PRO.

But, I've just done an even simple test that shows that there is a problem inside LRT3.1PRO:

Initialize>Auto Transition

With just that one can immediately see that after initialization the only crop columns that apear are top and bottom, with equal values in all images, as it should be.

But as soon as one hit the Auto Transition, a very strange thing happens: two more columns appear, the Crop Left and Crop Angle (with 0,000 in all frames) - if they have the same values, why didi they appeared? I suspect that they may be changed although the value that shows up is 0,000...I don't know.

But there is more: the Crop Top now is changing from 0.073 to 0.077, and the Crop Bottom from 0.927 to 0.923. Why did those values changed?

And there is a warning message that appears saying "Some clipping occurred when animating the crop. This may cause unwanted juddering results. Please leave more space to the edges"! So it looks like LRT3.1PRO is warning me against a mistake made by itself. Right?

I did this test for another sequence and the result is exactly the same. So the problem are not the images either.

All the best,

Hi Rui,
I don't think there is a general Problem in LRT3.1. I've thoroughly tested this and cannot reproduce what you report.
After initializing the sequence normally (if "hide unchanged properties is set") no crop column appears, because the values are all same. Hitting auto transition then does nothing.

If this behaves different, you should check, wich image has a different crop value and why.

I have a guess: the image sizes of your images might not be same and have different aspect ratios. This could have different causes, either there is an image in the sequence that does not belong there, or - more probably there was an issue with the exif data where the width and height of the images is stored into.

Please check the image sizes in LRTimelapse - I get you will find differences there that shouldn't exist.

If you are sure that all imagas are from the same camera and captured with the same resolution etc. you might try deleting all metadata (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-O) and reinitialize the sequence. This will rebuild the Widht/Heights and the Preview of the images.
If this still doesn't help, the images with different sizes are corrupt (this sometimes happens if you edit or open images in other programs like View NX etc.) - then I would suggest deleting those images.

Hi Gunther,

Yes the images belong to the sequence and are original RAW files, made with the same camera and within the same timelapse sequence. I don't use View NX or any other image editing software besides Lightroom (from time to time I use Photoshop but never in timelapse sequences).

But you guessed right :-) because:

The first photo shows up in LRT3.1PRO as having 4352x2868 px as you can see in the next image:

But in LR5 the dimensions are 4288x2848 as you can see:

I've done what you sad with cmd+A and Cmd+O and reinitialized the sequence but LRT continues to read those values differently.
I've checked the other sequence that has problems and the first image is also with different dimensions.
I've checked the dimensions in Photoshop and it reads the same thing as Lightroom:

Of coarse that for now I will just delete those first two images from both sequences, no problem with that but it would be interesting to understand why LRT is reading/showing different dimensions then the real ones and always in the first image of both sequences.

All the best,

I can't say it, never experienced it - but will do some test. would you mind sending me the first and second image of one of those sequences so I could experiment with it?

I've already deleted those two first images from those sequences, but I have another sequence where the same thing happens.
I'm sending you the two first RAW files of that one, right now.

After some e-mails exchange with Gunther Wegner, the problem was a big mistake that I've made: in spite of the warnings that GW did in the e-book, I had the LR catalog's option "Automatically write changes into XMP" selected.

That means that after the import, LR creates all the xmp files and when LRT tries to initialize them, sometimes the process goes wrong and the first image ends up with a different dimension.

So lesson learned: that option is now off in my timelapse catalog, as it should be in the first place.

Thanks Wegner!

You are welcome. I'm glad we finally figured that out. I added an faq entry for that now as well.
