d750 and external usb battery

Offline

Hi, looking to do a longer timelapse and saw this on youtube where they use a dummy battery, usb converter (5V to 9V) and usb battery pack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N741sFQa6-Q

Has anyone tried this method? My concern is the d750 battery shows 7V and I don't know if using 9V would damage the camera at all. Any input/tips appreciated. Thanks!

Normally the Nikons can work with 9V too, they will then assume they are wall powered. But there are also cheap DC 2 DC converters available, where you can set the exact voltage, for example to 7.8 volt.
I've published an article about a DIY camera power solution years ago on my German blog, you might use Google Translate: https://gwegner.de/know-how/externe-12v-...canon-diy/
Also there are ready to buy solutions for QC3 power banks available: https://amzn.to/3jqJYNG

Anyone have any luck with a usb converter? I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FL5...UTF8&psc=1

But when I try to take an exposure, I get an "Err" code. I tried a few battery packs that said they have the correct rating (5V 3A, 9V 2A, etc) but none of them worked. Thanks

Those qc3 adapters are quite fragile.
You need to connect the camera first and then plug the adapter to the pb.
The other problem is that most pb will shut down if no power is drawn for a couple of secs, this will happen for example when the camera goes to standby. You should try that with different intervals with your pb before doing an important shooting.

Hi There,
I use external battery packs for my D850 and Z6II purchased from IndiPro tools in NY. Jaycee there is very accommodating and can fill whatever requirements you might have. My external power supplies keep my cameras and lens heaters running all night. (BTW, I have no financial interest or affiliation with IndiPro).
Good luck,
Fred
