General LRTimelapse 7 question: internal renderer performance

Offline
#1 ultrazone
Hi there!

I've just updated to 7 and I didn't find an issue in beta7. So this is more a question than an actual bug: I'm editing with an i7-8700K, 64Gb RAM and a RX580 Amd graphics card. This time I used the internal renderer (I work in LightRoom most times), so I loaded a sequence shot with a Nikon D810 composed of over 4200 pics. I used original resolution (7360x4912) for exporting, and the rendering process took five hours.

As I remember it, the internal renderer was way faster, but this time I have the feeling it took a lot more time to export than before. I know it could be a lot of things, I just want to know if this is considered "normal" in terms of performance, especially compared to LRTimelapse 6.

Anyone else with the same "feeling"? Thanks for your comments!

No, the internal export is not necessarily faster. For such large sequences, the Lightroom export might be better. But please make some comparisons on your own system, since this also depends on your hardware.
If you want, test LRT 6 in comparison. I'd be curious to hear about your findings!
Best use a subset of 500 images for such tests so that you don't need to wait so long.

Will do! By the way, is it possible to have both versions installed at the same time? Do they share the preferences?

Thanks in advance!

No, that's not possible because of the lightroom addons. When one version is being installed, the other will automatically be uninstalled.

Hi again!

So I've been comparing 6.5 against beta8 using the internal renderer with a previously exported sequence of 500 images. To my surprise, both versions took the exact same time (1:15) to generate the video. Needless to say, same system and settings.

Were you expecting these results? What do you think?

Thanks again!

Yes, the render engine didn't change, that's ffmpeg's task.
In LRTimelapse 7 mostly the internal processes like Multi-Pass Visual Deflicker, Visual Preview Generation and Loading Sequence were massively sped up.
