How important is EXIF data?

Offline

I'm experimenting with making clips from incrementally blended images output from blending programs like StarStaX. The images are output as jpgs. When loaded by LRT the values for Interval, Aperture, Shutter-speed, and ISO appear as 'n/a'. When the original jpgs used for input to StartaX are loaded by LRT the missing values appear as expected.

Regardless of the missing EXIF data is there anything to be gained by converting the jpgs to DNGs for LRT input.?

Exif data in LRT is needed to calculate the intervals (date/time) and for the Holy Grail wizard (exp/iso/aperture) . That means you cam also work without that data.

Wrapping jpgs in dng (in Lightroom) will of course not make them raw files, but will allow you to use the visual workflow.

When I work with jps or tiffs as input files I always wrap them into dng. For stuff like you do, I'd use tiff / dng.
