One nice thing of W7 is the progress taskbar feature. I don't know if its an easy thing to implement, but would be really helpful, specially the first time you open a folder and the program has to load all the previews.

Hi, you are right, this would be a nice feature. Unfortunately currently there is no direct way to accomplish this in Java and the only 3rd party library I know is http://www.strixcode.com/j7goodies/ but i fear the pricing is a bit above the expected benefits...

Yeah, that is expensive. Let's hope someday someone will release a free library.

I'm going to keep track of it.
