3rd party focus motor that works with Black Forest Motion Pine II?

Hi All,

I need to source a focus motor (that attaches to a 15mm rod) to replace my dying Black Forest Motion focus motor (version 1). I need a replacement that will work with my Pine II controller (which I absolutely love).

My BFM focus motor is afflicted with terminal backlash problems. Yes, I have carefully tightened all the screws, inside and out: the threads in the internal plastic gears are failing, and I sadly can't get replacements (for want of a 15cent plastic gear, I'm going to have to pay up to three hundred euros :-(

I already have a Tilta Nucleus Nano motor that I use for video work, but it communicates via a micro-USB interface, and Black Forest Motion doesn't make a suitable cable.

I have yet another focus motor that works with my DJI Ronin RS3 gimbal, but it communicates via USB-C, and BFM don't have a cable for that interface either. It's a very good focus motor, a lot of torque and quite small and light.

A key point: the DJI motor is almost half the price of the BFM focus motor, and the Tilta motor is a third of the price.

Yes, I could go with the Black Forest Motion focus motor version 2, but it's expensive for what it does (I get it: no economies of scale to bring the price down).

Frankly, I'd like most to find a way to make one of the two motors I still have work with my Pine II, as I already own them, and would only need to buy a cable. But if I have to buy a third one, it would need to work with one of the cable interfaces that BFM offer: https://blackforestmotion.com/en/produkt/motor-cable/ I'd only go with a third party focus motor if the price was lower than the BFM Focus Motor version 2. This is merely an economic decision (assuming that all options actually work!).

A very specific request for info, but I'm hoping that somebody here has solved this problem already, or at least has better google skills than I do (I have been searching around, with no luck).

Cheers, and thanks in advance for any info.

Hi Chas,
have a look here:
https://forum.lrtimelapse.com/Thread-diy...ocus-motor
It's in German, but translating it shouldn't be a problem.
It works with the BFM pine or with my Frame MoCo https://tlpbf.de/components/?lang=en
The motor is equipped with a JST PHR-6. For this there is a cable from BFM (version 1)
There is now a new, smaller version. If you are interested in it send me an email.
